Ordering the smec
To order the smec, send the exact model or reference code printed on the original part to [email protected]. Please quote the full code including any suffix so that our team can confirm the correct variant, current stock and lead time before you commit.
About the smec
Elevator and escalator installations are built around a relatively small number of serviceable assemblies, but they fail at very different rates. The smec sits in the control board / PCB group, and it is replaced on a different service interval from the assemblies around it. In practice the failures we see on smec come down to electrolytic capacitor ageing, cracked solder joints around the power stage, corroded edge connectors, and blown output transistors after a supply fault.
Every smec we supply is inspected before dispatch. Each unit is checked for physical damage, correct marking and the specific wear or degradation patterns that matter for this class of component, then packed to survive international transit. Where a superseded revision is the only one available, we say so plainly and explain the substitution, so the installing engineer can make an informed decision rather than discovering the difference on site.
Buying guidance and compatibility notes
Before ordering the smec, confirm three things. First, the controller catalogue number and the board revision letter, plus the fault code stored in the controller memory. Second, the same board is frequently fitted across several controller families, so the equipment model alone is not enough to identify the right revision. Third, whether the installation is a traction lift or an escalator, since duty cycle and loading differ between the two.
On fitting, one point is worth repeating: discharge the DC bus before removing a power board, and photograph the connector layout before you unplug anything. Almost every repeat failure we see on smec traces back to a related component that was left in place, or to an adjustment that was assumed rather than measured.
Control electronics dominate the failure statistics on any lift older than about twelve years. The boards themselves are usually sound; what fails is the surrounding hardware — capacitors that have dried out, connectors that have oxidised in a humid machine room, and solder joints that have cracked under years of thermal cycling.
When a customer reports a lift that travels but refuses to level or open its doors, our first question is about aging electrolytic capacitors that have lost capacitance rather than failed outright rather than about the electronics.
Optical isolation protects the low-voltage side of a controller from the drive stage, and when it fails the symptoms can look like a processor fault. Testing the isolators is often quicker than swapping the main board and is worth doing before committing to a replacement.
A controller board carries the whole logic of the installation on one or two PCBs; the equipment model alone is rarely enough — the same controller was fitted to several product ranges with different parameter sets.
Documentation and traceability separate a professional supplier from a breaker. Knowing which installation a board came from, and what it was tested against, is what turns an untested pull into a dependable service part with a meaningful warranty behind it.
A unit showing a fault code that clears on reset and returns days later is usually telling you that we confirm the revision letter against the original rather than trusting the order code alone.
If you are unsure which variant of the smec you need, send a photograph of the nameplate and the existing component alongside a description of the fault. That is usually enough for our team to identify the correct replacement without a site visit, and it avoids the cost and delay of returning an incompatible part. We are also happy to advise on the other serviceable items in the same control board / PCB group, so a planned shutdown can cover several wear items at once.
