Traveling Cable

Overview

The traveling cable is the flat or round flexible cable that carries power and signals between the car and the controller as the lift moves up the shaft. It flexes on every trip, so fatigue rather than load is what eventually fails it. One Elevator supplies replacement traveling cables built to the required core count, with the connectors and suspension clamps to match.

Applications

Traveling cables are replaced in passenger lifts, panoramic lifts, hospital beds lifts and freight elevators in residential blocks, office towers, hotels, hospitals and shopping malls, and are made for OTIS, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi, ThyssenKrupp and Fujitec systems. CCTV, EMS and emergency telephone cores are the usual reason for an upgrade. Intermittent faults that appear only at certain floors are almost always a broken core in the traveling cable. On refurbishment jobs, replacing the traveling cable together with the controller avoids a second shutdown a few months later.

Selection Guide

Order by confirming three things: the number and size of cores, the cable length including the shaft pit and machine room allowance, and the suspension method. Also check the bending radius in the pit — an over-tight loop is the most common cause of early core failure. We recommend keeping a spare core or two for future services, since adding a cable later costs far more than adding cores now. Cables are tested for continuity, insulation resistance and high-voltage withstand before dispatch.
