Elevator Load Weighing Device
Overview
Elevator load weighing devices measure the load in the car and tell the controller when it is empty, full or overloaded, so the drive can set the correct starting torque and block departure when overloaded. They are the reason a modern lift starts smoothly whether it carries one passenger or ten. One Elevator supplies replacement load cells, overload switches and the calibration units used in most elevator systems.
Applications
They are fitted in passenger lifts, hospital beds lifts, freight elevators and service lifts in residential blocks, office towers, hotels, hospitals and industrial sites, and suit OTIS, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi, ThyssenKrupp and Fujitec machines. A drifting load cell causes poor starting comfort and false overload alarms, both of which generate callbacks. In freight and hospital lifts, the overload signal often also drives a buzzer and a door-hold function. On modernisation work the load device is usually replaced with the controller, since the new drive needs an accurate signal from the first trip.

Selection Guide
Choose by checking three things: the rated load and capacity, the output signal (analogue, relay or bus), and the mounting position. Then plan for recalibration after installation, since a load cell is only as accurate as its last calibration. Overload thresholds should be verified with test weights and recorded, not set by estimation. All devices are tested for linearity, repeatability, temperature drift and overload recovery.
