Step Demarcation Light

Overview

Step demarcation lights are the yellow or white LED strips set into the step tread or the comb area that outline each step edge for passengers. They make the step boundary visible, which measurably reduces missteps at the landing. One Elevator supplies replacement light strips, lenses and the wiring harnesses that connect them.

Applications

They are used on escalators in metro stations, airports, shopping malls, theatres and hotels, and are made to fit OTIS, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi, ThyssenKrupp and Hyundai equipment. Because they sit in the moving step band, they are among the most frequently damaged lighting parts on an escalator. Most sites replace a single failed strip rather than the whole run, which is why we supply them individually. Because the strips sit at step level, most sites replace them during scheduled step work rather than booking a separate shutdown.

Types and Range

  • Yellow and white LED step-edge strips
  • Comb lighting and landing lighting modules
  • Skirt lighting strips and diffusers
  • Replacement lenses, gaskets and end caps
  • Wiring harnesses, connectors and junction boxes
  • Constant-current drivers and power supplies

Strips are supplied in step-width lengths for 600, 800 and 1000 mm escalators.

Selection Guide

Order by checking three things: the voltage and current rating, the strip length, and the connector type on the existing harness. Confirm the ingress rating too — step-level lighting needs at least IP54 where the escalator is washed down. If only part of a strip is dark, the driver is the usual cause rather than the LEDs. Every unit is tested for luminous output, insulation resistance and water ingress before packing. Spare drivers are worth keeping on site, since they fail more often than the LED strips themselves.

Ordering and Lead Time

Stock sizes dispatch in 7-10 working days; custom lengths take 2-3 weeks. Tell us the escalator brand, model and step width, and we will return a quote, usually within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How do I match a demarcation light strip?
Give us the escalator brand, model and step width, plus the length and colour of the strip you are replacing.
Can I replace a single failed strip?
Yes, and most sites do. Strips are supplied individually for that reason, though replacing the run at step level usually saves a second shutdown.
What is the lead time on custom lengths?
Stock lengths dispatch in 7-10 working days; custom lengths take 2-3 weeks. Tell us the step width and we will confirm before you order.
