Overview

Elevator emergency intercoms are the hands-free communication units in the car that connect a trapped passenger to the rescue service or building reception. They are now a legal requirement in most markets and a standard item in every inspection. One Elevator supplies replacement intercoms, alarm bells and the GSM or PSTN modules that carry the call.

Applications

They are fitted in passenger lifts, hospital beds lifts, panoramic lifts and service lifts in residential blocks, office towers, hotels, hospitals and shopping malls, and are made to fit OTIS, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi, ThyssenKrupp and Fujitec cars. EN 81-28 sets the requirements for remote alarm systems, and a working two-way intercom is now mandatory in most markets. A monthly automatic test call is the practical way to prove the system still works. Where a building has several lifts, we recommend one intercom type across the whole site so the rescue service only learns one unit.

Confirm three things before ordering: the communication path (GSM, PSTN or building line), the power supply and backup battery type, and the panel cut-out. Check the monthly auto-test function too, since inspectors now ask for the test log. Battery backup should be specified on every unit, because mains power is usually lost in the same event that traps passengers. Every unit is tested for call setup, audio clarity, battery endurance and alarm bell output.
