Four Handrail Types for Every Escalator
Pick by section shape and duty — we confirm the exact profile from your measured dimensions.
C-Type Handrails
Open-section, clip-on profile — the universal choice for most commercial escalators and moving walks.
- SWE, SDS, OTIS-800, FT-800, KONE C700
- Indoor malls, offices, residential
- SBR / EPDM / CSM
V-Type Handrails
Internal V-rib seats into the guide rail on transit / opaque-balustrade units. Never swaps with C-type.
- SDS-V, OTIS-800V, FT-300V, KONE V700
- Metro, airport, transit duty
- SBR / CSM
Linear-Drive Handrails
Embedded steel plate driven directly by the wheel — used on certain Hitachi & Mitsubishi machines.
- Hitachi GRF series, Mitsubishi J
- Specialised OEM profiles
- EHC / Prysmian only
Coloured & Custom
CSM keeps its colour; TPU is hygienic and easy-clean. Custom widths, colours and end-forms on request.
- CSM coloured, TPU (NT)
- Landmark, hospital, food area
- Made-to-measure

When (and Why) to Replace a Handrail
A handrail is a safety part. These are the published scrap conditions — and the natural moment to upsell the full kit.
Scrap when steel shows
GB/T 37217-2018: replace immediately if the internal steel cord or steel tape is exposed.
Scrap on delamination
Layers peeling apart, or the cover worn through to the carcass — the belt can no longer carry load safely.
Scrap on wide cracks
Any crack wider than 3 mm in the cover is a scrap condition.
Scrap on slip
If the belt slips and handrail speed drifts outside 0–+2% of the step speed, replace it.
Watch the gap
If the mouth-to-rail gap exceeds 8 mm (GB 16899), the belt is out of spec and must go.

Belt jointed on site (or supplied endless). We advise on tools and the 25 kN joint check.
Pricing, Lead Time & Shipping
All dimensions are nominal with manufacturer tolerance. Final selection requires measured cross-section + OEM part number.
What a Handrail Is Made Of
Every belt is a 4-layer composite. The cover material decides feel, life and where it can be used.
Cover
SBR / CSM / EPDM / NR+CR / TPU
75±5 Shore A; wear, UV and ozone resistance; CSM keeps its colour
- The gripped surface — decides feel, wear and look
Carcass
Nylon-polyester fabric
Dimensional stability and bend-fatigue; ~20 bends per cycle, 40M+ over life
- Decides resistance to repeated bending
Tensile
Steel cord / aramid / polyester; plate in linear-drive
Min. breaking strength ≥25 kN (EN 115-1, joint included); elongation ≤0.1% @2000 N
- Stops the belt stretching, slipping or wandering
Slider
Low-friction nylon / polyester
Friction ≤0.30 on rail (dry), static ≥0.60 on drive wheel
- Slides on the guide rail — sets run resistance and heat
Styrene-Butadiene Rubber
Pros: Most flexible, best bend-fatigue, lowest cost, good grip; ~90% of all belts
Best for: Indoor malls, offices, residential, low–mid traffic
- Price: 1.0×
Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene (Hypalon)
Pros: Wear-resistant synthetic rubber that keeps its colour; flame-retardant, UV- and oil-resistant
Best for: Coloured belts, landmarks, hospitals / food areas needing frequent disinfection
- Price: 1.3–1.8×
EPDM / NR+CR blend
Pros: UV- and ozone-resistant, stays supple in cold; mainstream indoor formula in China
Best for: Semi-outdoor, cold regions, low indoor traffic
- Price: 1.0–1.2×
Thermoplastic Polyurethane
Pros: 3–5× wear life of rubber, dense high-gloss surface, easy-clean, anti-bacterial, recyclable
Best for: Metro, rail, airport, hospital, outdoor, high-hygiene
- Price: 1.8–3.0×
Embedded steel-plate belt
Pros: Driven by the wheel meshing an internal steel plate, not friction; Hitachi / Mitsubishi transit types
Best for: Hitachi & Mitsubishi linear-drive machines
- Price: highest
