Skirt Brush

Overview

Skirt brushes are the bristle strips fitted along the lower skirt panel to keep feet, clothing and loose items away from the gap between the step and the skirt. They are a low-cost part that prevents a high-cost injury, and they wear out faster than almost anything else on the machine. One Elevator supplies replacement skirt brushes and aluminium holders for most escalator and moving walk models.

Applications

They are standard on equipment in metro stations, airports, shopping centres and supermarkets, and fit OTIS, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi, ThyssenKrupp and Hyundai machines. EN 115-1 requires skirt brushes or equivalent deflectors on new installations, so they are among the highest-volume consumables in escalator maintenance. Most operators replace them on a fixed cycle rather than waiting for visible wear. Because the holder is reusable, replacing only the bristle insert is usually the cheapest option once the first set has been fitted.

Selection Guide

Check three values when replacing: bristle height, holder profile, and total length per side. Bristle stiffness matters too — too soft and the brush flattens, too hard and it marks shoes. Flattened or missing bristles are a common finding in insurance inspections, so we recommend checking them at every service visit. Holders are anodised against corrosion, and bristles are tested for flexibility and pull-out resistance.
