Escalator Step
Overview
Escalator steps are the moving platforms that carry passengers between landings, formed from a tread, a riser and the rollers that run in the track. They take impact damage from trolleys, luggage and debris, and their cleats mesh with the comb at every landing. One Elevator supplies replacement steps and step bodies for most mainstream escalator models, delivered fully assembled or as bare castings with a machined tread surface.
Applications
Steps are replaced most often in metro and railway stations, airports, stadiums and shopping malls, where impact damage and cleat wear are constant. We cover OTIS, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi, ThyssenKrupp, Hyundai and SJEC machines, including older units that are no longer supported by the original manufacturer. Most sites keep a small stock of spares, because a single damaged step takes the whole escalator out of service. Steps are heavy and bulky, so we ship them palletised and can stage delivery to match your shutdown window rather than your workshop space.

Each step is balanced and checked for dimensional accuracy before packing.
Selection Guide
Match a replacement by three numbers: step width (600, 800 or 1000 mm), riser height, and the roller and axle arrangement. Check the cleat profile as well, since tread and comb teeth must interlock without contact. A step that is even half a millimetre out of pitch will ride up on the comb, so we verify the pitch against a sample before dispatch. Steps are manufactured to EN 115-1 geometry and inspected for flatness, radial run-out and static load.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I confirm step compatibility?
- Give us the escalator model, the step width and the riser height. Steps are not interchangeable between widths even when they look identical.
- Can a single damaged step be replaced?
- Yes, but check the neighbours. Damaged cleats or broken demarcation segments usually mean the whole band has seen the same duty.
- Do you supply steps in sets?
- Single steps and full bands. For a full band we quote per step and include the yellow demarcation segments and fixing hardware.
