Overview

An elevator service tool is the handheld operator a technician plugs into the controller to read faults, change parameters and run the car on inspection. It replaces the laptop-and-cable routine on controllers that have a dedicated service port. Applications

Service tools are used during installation, modernisation, annual inspection and breakdown response in residential towers, offices, hospitals, hotels and metro stations, on controllers from OTIS, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi, ThyssenKrupp, Hitachi, Toshiba, Hyundai and the main Chinese platforms. A tool is usually bought once per technician rather than once per site, so the buying decision is about protocol coverage and firmware support. Because controllers are updated and discontinued, the practical question is not whether the tool works today but whether adapters and firmware are still available for it. Units locked to a single controller family are cheap to buy and expensive to own.
