Elevator Levelling Sensor

Overview

Elevator levelling sensors are the magnetic or optical devices that read the floor vane in the shaft and tell the controller when the car is level with the landing. They decide stopping accuracy, which is what passengers judge the lift by. One Elevator supplies replacement sensors, vanes and the mounting brackets used in most levelling systems.

Applications

They are used in passenger lifts, hospital beds lifts, freight elevators and service lifts in residential blocks, office towers, hotels and hospitals, and are made to fit OTIS, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi, ThyssenKrupp and Fujitec controllers. Poor levelling accuracy is almost always traced back to a dirty sensor or a bent vane rather than the drive. In hospital and freight applications, accurate levelling also protects trolleys and beds at the threshold. Sensors on the car top are exposed to dust and oil, so we recommend a sealed version on machine-room-less installations.

Selection Guide

Order by checking three things: the sensor type and output (NPN, PNP or relay), the sensing distance, and the supply voltage. Also confirm the vane width, since a narrow vane with a slow controller produces overshoot and a second re-levelling cycle. Where vane brackets are bent, the bracket must be replaced with the sensor or the fault will return. Every sensor is tested for switching accuracy, response time and temperature drift. On higher-speed lifts we recommend a two-sensor arrangement, which holds accuracy across the full travel.
