Escalator Skirt Panel

Overview

Skirt panels are the vertical sliding surfaces on both sides of the step band, closing the gap between the steps and the balustrade. They are set to a tight clearance, so even light impact damage is enough to take an escalator out of service. One Elevator supplies replacement skirt panels cut and drilled to the original pattern, in stainless steel, aluminium and low-friction coated finishes.

Applications

Panels are replaced after impact damage, deep scratching or clearance adjustment in metro stations, airports, shopping malls and hotels, on equipment from OTIS, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi, ThyssenKrupp and Hyundai. They are usually changed in sections rather than as a full run. Deep scratches are not only cosmetic: a rough panel traps debris and increases drag on the step band. Where only the lower section is damaged, we can supply a part-length panel with a matched joint instead of a full-height replacement.

Each panel is cut to the rise and checked for flatness before packing.

Selection Guide

Order by three values: panel length, material and thickness, and the fixing hole pattern. Also confirm whether the panel carries lighting or a brush holder, since that changes the profile. After fitting, the clearance to the step and the panel rigidity are both checked, because a flexible panel deflects under pressure. Panels are produced to EN 115-1 clearance requirements and inspected for flatness and surface finish.

Ordering and Lead Time

Most panels ship within 10-15 days. Tell us the escalator brand, model and rise, and we will check the drawings and return a quote, usually within 24 hours.
